A New Approach to Mentoring

Mentoring, with its unique focus on relationships, can be an effective way of transferring skills that are hard to teach through traditional training: People skills, leadership skills, and ethical decision-making skills.

Mentoring can play an important role in attracting and retaining talent. The business continuity profession is often overlooked as a career choice because it is not well known. Disaster Recovery Journal is helping build this path with a free, 10-month mentor program.

People who have taken part in a mentoring relationship report they benefited in terms of both career and personal development. Career development literature shows that many consider being a mentor a key developmental task for individuals, especially mid-career, while those who have been mentees may have higher levels of career advancement, and career satisfaction.

Attend the webinar to hear the success story of a mentee and mentor completing the 10-month DRJ Mentor Program. Learn how becoming a mentee or mentor is an investment in two professionals and two organizations.

Melissa Owings will be facilitating a discussion with Mark and Margaret who are currently part of the DRJ mentoring program.

Mark Minutillo is from Chicago, Illinois.  He earned his B.S. at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) and his MBA at George Mason University.  After college, Mark served in the U.S. Navy, and continued service in the U.S. Navy Reserves.  He held roles in the telecommunications industry as a technical project manager and a business operations program manager.  Mark later joined a technology solutions company as a product delivery manager and a critical incident controller, before assuming his current role as an operations manager.  Mark is currently responsible for managing the company’s Disaster Recovery test program.  He is a Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP).  Mark joined the DRJ Mentoring Program in August 2021.

Margaret Millett, MSBC, FBCI (Hon), MBCP, has been actively involved in the business continuity management profession for many years and worked for Fortune 300 companies in Boston, Massachusetts, Dublin, Ireland, San Jose, CA, and Raleigh, NC. She has held board levels positions with business continuity organizations, written publications and spoken at business continuity management conferences in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.  Since 2015 she has served as the Board Chair for the Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern North Carolina.  Margaret currently works for Uber Technologies, Inc as the Head of Global Resilience.
